Algeria, EU discuss Libyan crisis, anti-terrorism cooperation

Algeria and the European Union (EU) have recently discussed the Libyan situation and anti-terrorism cooperation, APS news agency reported Wednesday.

These were major topics of a meeting here between Algerian Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League, Abdelkader Messahel, and an EU delegation.

Algeria reiterated its firm stand in tackling terrorism with socio-economic development and human rights respect, the source said.

The minister also suggested supporting the political process and the UN-brokered dialogue on the Libyan issue.

"We have discussed the international situation, particularly the challenges we are facing with terrorism and the threat of terrorist group of ISIS," said Pedro Serrano, Assistant General Secretary for EU Service for External Action.

He noted that the two sides expected to deepen bilateral cooperation, saying the two sides "are concerned by the same issues and share wide convergence of views".

Algeria and the EU signed an Association Agreement in 2005 in a bid to boost bilateral economic relations. Endit
