Iraqi military helicopter crashes, 3 crew killed

Xinhua, February 16, 2016 Adjust font size:

An Iraqi military helicopter crashed Tuesday in Iraq's eastern province of Wasit, leaving three of its crew members killed, a provincial security source said.

The crash of the Russian-made Mi-17 apparently was due to technical malfunctions while it was flying over a village just northeast of the provincial capital city of Kut, some 170 km southeast of Baghdad, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The source could not confirm whether the helicopter was carrying any passenger on its trip.

The incident occurred in the morning when the helicopter was flying from a military airbase in Basra in southern Iraq to Baghdad, the source said. Endit
