Afghan police kill 8 Taliban militants in operations: gov't

Xinhua, February 16, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Afghan national police on Monday killed eight Taliban militants and recovered lethal weapons during a special operation in a restive eastern province, said the country's Interior Ministry on Tuesday.

"Members of Special Operation Force of Afghan National Police (ANP) carried out a raid in Adazai village, Tagab district of eastern Kapisa province on Monday. As a result eight Taliban terrorists were killed and three others were injured," the ministry said in a statement.

The targeted militants were involved in several terrorist attacks, including roadside bombings and landmine blasts and ambushes against security forces in the district, the statement added.

Three heavy machineguns, a rocket launcher, a PKM automatic gun with its 6,000 rounds of bullets and 50 kg of explosive materials were among ammunition found following the raid in the province, some 65 km north of Kabul, the statement noted.

In a separate incident, six militants were killed and five others wounded after the militants attacked an army convoy in Qush Tipa district, Jawzjan province Monday night, Riza Reezahi, an army spokesman in northern Afghanistan, said earlier on Tuesday.

"No member of the convoy was harmed during the clash lasting for hours in the province, some 390 km north of Kabul," he told Xinhua.

The militant group has yet to make comments. Enditem
