Inzko hails BiH's application to join EU

Xinhua, February 16, 2016 Adjust font size:

Valentin Inzko, the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), on Monday hailed BiH's application to join the European Union (EU).

"Allow me to congratulate all the citizens of BiH on this historic day. While you have always been Europeans, today you have taken an important and symbolic step towards one day becoming equal citizens of the EU alongside half a billion of your fellow Europeans," Inzko said in a statement.

Opportunities as well as difficulties lied ahead, and it needs even harder work to push the country forward on the road of its EU integration, he added.

"Roll up your sleeves, BiH, and seize this opportunity with both hands," Inzko stated.

The Chairman of BiH Presidency Dragan Covic earlier on the day submitted the paperwork to become a member of the 28-nation European bloc in Brussels to Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister Bert Koenders. Endit
