Myanmar fetches over 500 mln USD from jade export

Myanmar fetched 567 million U.S. dollars from jade export in the first nine months (April-Dec)of the fiscal year 2015-16, sources with Ministry of Commerce said Monday.

Of the total during the period, border trade amounted to 305 million U.S.dollars while 262 million U.S.dollars were gained through navigation channel.

The mining sector with mostly jade products earned a total of 895 million U.S.dollars in the same period.

It is expected to get over one billion U.S.dollars from mining in the present 2015-16 fiscal year, the sources said.

According to official statistics, foreign investment in mining sector amounted to 2.87 billion U.S.dollars in 70 projects, accounting for 4.85 percent of the total as of December 2015 since Myanmar opened to such investment in late 1988 and standing fifth in Myanmar's foreign investment line-up.
