Railway passenger trips hit record high as holiday ends

Xinhua, February 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

Chinese passengers made a record number of trips by train on Sunday as people returned to work after a week-long lunar New Year holiday, according to China Railway Corporation (CRC) on Monday.

Railway passenger trips reached 10.3 million on Feb. 14, up 9.7 percent from last year, CRC data showed. The official seven-day Spring Festival holiday ended on Feb. 13.

A total of 9.8 million passenger trips are expected to be made by train on Monday, according to CRC.

This year, the Chinese are expected to make 2.91 billion passenger trips across the country during the 40-day lunar New Year travel rush, or "Chunyun", which lasts from Jan. 24 to March 3 and is the world's largest annual human migration for family reunions. Endi
