5 Britons killed in car crash in Sweden: media

Xinhua, February 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Five Britons, who were believed to include members of a British band, have died in a car crash in Sweden, British media said Sunday.

The accident happened on Saturday at Sodertalje, near the Swedish capital Stockholm.

The vehicle carrying the deceased was traveling along the E4 highway outside Stockholm when it careered off a 25-meter-high bridge into a canal.

Police divers recovered the bodies of five men from the water. They were aged between 19 and 32.

The Warrington-based group had performed in Sweden on Friday, according to their Facebook page.

They were due to play in Guildford, Surrey, on Saturday night, but the venue said the event had been canceled due to "unforeseen circumstances."

A British Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that five British nationals died in a car accident in Sweden on February 13. We are in contact with local authorities and supporting the families at this very difficult time." Endi
