India may get its first and the world's third gravitational wave observatory - Laser Interferometer Gravitational Observatory (LIGO), local media reported Friday.
The western state of Maharashtra and the central state of Madhya Pradesh are among the Indian states shortlisted for LIGO to detect gravitational waves, similar to the two detectors already in the United States, the Hindustan Times newspaper reported.
Though the Indian cabinet has yet to give a final go-ahead to the observatory project, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already tweeted: "Hope to make an even bigger contribution with an advanced gravitational- wave detector in the country."
The United States has two LIGOs. Enditem
