Thai deputy premiers to visit Russia for trade, military cooperation

Thailand's deputy premiers are scheduled to visit Russia in a bid to promote bilateral trade and military cooperation later this month.
Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan and Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak will leave for Moscow and meet with high-level Russian officials, deputy government spokesman Virachon Sukhonthapatipak said on Friday.
Prawit will discuss topics pertaining to Thai-Russian security and military cooperation while Somkid will hold a dialogue on bilateral trade and investment as well as economic cooperation in the areas of agriculture, fishery and energy, among others, according to the spokesman.
He declined to give details or elaborate as to whether Prawit and Somkid might possibly meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin or Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev during their visit to the Russian capital later this month.
During Thursday's meeting with visiting Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, Thai Premier Prayut Chan-o-cha repeated his invitation for Putin to visit Bangkok some time next year.
Prayut, who will participate in an ASEAN-United States summit in California next week, is scheduled to attend an ASEAN-Russia summit in Moscow in May. Endit
