Hoffenheim appoint Julian Nagelsmann as new head coach

Relegation-threatened Hoffenheim have appointed Julian Nagelsmann as their new head coach until 2019, the Bundesliga outfit announced on Thursday.

Nagelsmann is now the youngest coach in the Bundesliga history after replacing Huub Stevens, who stepped down with immediate effect due to heart problems, on Wednesday. The 28-year-old former coach of Hoffenheim's Under 19 inked a contract until June 2019.

"We are sure, that he is in this uncertain situation the best coach. He can give the team a new impetus," Hoffenheim's director of professional soccer Alexander Rosen told the club's official homepage.

Nevertheless, it was initially planned that Nagelsmann takes the helm at the end of the current season but Huub Stevens' unexpectedly resignation forced Hoffenheim to take actions.

"I know it's a massive challenge especially if you look at the standings. I am however not worried. I look forward to the work with the team," Nagelsmann said.

Struggling Hoffenheim, who sit on the 17th place of the standings with seven points to safety, will meet 16th placed Bremen for the bottom clash in the 21st round of Bundesliga on Saturday. Endit
