Singapore stocks close 1.7 pct lower

Singapore stocks finished lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI), down 43.82 points, or 1.7 percent, to close at 2,538.28.

A total of 816.9 million shares changed hands with turnover of 1.05 billion Singapore dollars (755.4 million U.S. dollars).

Decliners outnumbered gainers 264 to 119, while 540 others finished unchanged.

The STI index lost 41.11 points, or 1.57 percent, to close at 2,582.10 on Wednesday. Enditem
