An air regiment of Russia's Eastern Military District, headquartered in the country's Far East city of Khabarovsk, has been equipped with two new Su-35S jets, the military district's press service said Thursday.
"Currently, Su-35S jets received by the regiment have already been put into operation. Moreover, several new Su-30SM jets will be supplied by the end of 2016," said the press service.
The Su-35S, regarded as a 4++ generation aircraft by its manufacturer Sukhoi, is an upgraded version of the Su-27 multirole fighter. The Su-35S incorporates a reinforced airframe, improved avionics and radar, thrust-vectoring engines, and a reduced frontal radar signature.
The first newest Su-35S fighters were delivered to the Eastern Military District in late 2014.
Russia has four operational strategic commands and the Eastern Military District is the biggest one. Endi
