Nick Mwendwa was elected as the new president of the Kenyan Football Federation (KFF) Wednesday after incumbent president Sam Nyamweya withdrew from the race before the polling started.
Mwendwa, 36, secured the top seat with 50 votes against 27 from lawyer Ambrose Rachier in a contest of six.
"I'm delighted to win the elections but the hard work of bringing change to Kenyan football starts here," said Mwendwa, who led his Team Change outfit to the top job in the country's football.
Nyamweya announced his shock withdrawal from the elections shortly before the 77 delegates started casting their ballots in the afternoon.
"I want to thank the delegates for giving me the opportunity to manage the game and I want to assure that we have now started. We will make sure that everything is functioning right from the grassroots," Mwendwa said.
Mwendwa, a youthful Information Technology expert, is also the chairman of Kenya's second-tier league side, Kariobangi Sharks. Endit
