Slovakia offers help to Greece on migration crisis

Xinhua, February 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

Slovakia is ready to help Greece with handling the migration crisis, Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak said Tuesday.

"Greece is a close partner and an ally within the EU and NATO. We are sensitive to the challenges it currently faces and we're ready to help our friends to handle these challenges together," Lajcak said after meeting with his Greek counterpart Nikos Xydakis here.

According to Lajcak, Slovakia is ready to help materially, technically, financially and via provision of personnel. Slovakia sent 14 tons of humanitarian aid worth more than 150,000 euros (169,500 U.S. dollars) to Greece last month, he added.

Lajcak suggested additional help in the form of a financial injection to build a registration centre for migrants.

He warned that the migration crisis poses a threat to the EU as a whole.

"Therefore, it's necessary to rapidly find an EU-wide solution to stop the never ending flow of migrants and to address the root causes of the migration," Lajcak said. Endit
