Algerian troops kill militant, seize weapons in operation

Algerian army troops on Tuesday killed a militant in the northern province of Bouira, and discovered weapon bunkers near the border with Mali, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

"As part of the fight against terrorism, a detachment of People's National Army in Bouira (120 km southeast of Algiers) eliminated on Tuesday a terrorist during an ongoing operation in the area," it said.

A quantity of arms were found, including a RPK machine gun and 110 bullets.

A day earlier, the army troops deployed in the southernmost locality of Bordj Badji Mokhtar discovered a bunker containing weapons of different types at the border with Mali, it added.

Two Kalashnikov machine guns, one PKT machine gun, six RPG rockets, 69 grenades, a large quantity of ammunition of different calibers and explosives were seized in the operation.

Algeria deployed thousand of troops along the southern 1200 km long borderline with Mali and Niger to foil the intrusion of arms and militants following the deterioration of security situations in Mali and Niger. Endit
