China's belt and road initiative path to stabilizing regions: ex-French PM

Xinhua, February 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

Former French Prime Minister Dominique De Villepin said here Tuesday China's belt and road initiative was the right path to create economic prosperity from East Asia to Europe and Africa and to reduce regional conflicts as individual countries lack the resources to do so alone.

The initiative "means implementing sustainable economic and infrastructure in Eurasia and Africa and this is important to tackle poverty and to fight regional instability," De Villepin told over 2,000 delegates gathered for the fourth World Government Summit 2016 hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

De Villepin believed that individuals in poor countries could be easily attracted by extremism and terrorism, posing a threat to both their own nations but also to the neighboring countries, and the region.

He also said that China's belt and road initiative, which was proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013, is a bold vision to create prosperity and peace. Enditem
