Ajax defender Riedewald out for season due to ankle injury

Xinhua, February 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ajax defender Jairo Riedewald suffered an ankle fracture and will be out for the season, medical examination made clear on Monday.

Riedewald broke his left ankle in the match against Feyenoord on Sunday. He limped off after 11 minutes. The 19-year-old Dutch international will undergo surgery later this week. He will be out of action for three to four months and therefore miss the remainder of the season.

The injury of Riedewald is the second major recent setback for coach Frank de Boer, since he lost right defender Kenny Tete two weeks ago due to ruptured right ankle ligaments. Tete will be out until the end of April.

Ajax are currently second in the Eredivisie. With 12 match rounds remaining the Amsterdam based giants trail reigning champions PSV by one point. Endit
