Palestinian killed, several wounded in West Bank tension: medics

Xinhua, February 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

A Palestinian young man was killed and several others wounded on Friday during violent tension between the Israeli army and Palestinian protesters allover the West Bank, medical sources said.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said in an emailed press statement that one Palestinian teenager was killed and one was injured by Israeli troops' gunfire near the town of Halhoul, close to the southern West Bank city of Hebron.

The statement said the identity of the teenager was still unknown, adding that the ministry was informed by the joint Israeli-Palestinian liaison that the teenager was killed, but refused to hand over his body to the Palestinian side.

However, the Israeli media, which quoted the Israeli army, reported that the two young men tried to attack Israeli soldiers at an Israeli army road barrier north of Hebron, adding that soldiers opened fire, killed one and wounded the other.

Clashes between Israel and the Palestinians renewed on Friday in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, where at least three Palestinians were injured by Israeli troops' gunfire in northern West Bank city of Qalqilia and one injured in eastern Gaza.

A wave of spontaneous violent tension broke out in early October between Israel and the Palestinians, which had already left 170 Palestinians killed, most of them were killed after they carried out stabbing and shooting attacks against Israelis.

In the meantime, 30 Israelis were killed and more than 350 injured in a series of shooting, stabbing and cars run-over attacks carried out by Palestinian young men and women in the West Bank and Israel, including Jerusalem. Endit
