Xinhua, February 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least 2 people were killed in a car explosion in Mogadishu, capital of Somalia, police said on Friday.

"Bomb was fitted into the exploded car resulted in deaths of two people. Attack coordinators wanted to target government official, but he was not in the car. His driver and another person were killed in the incident," police officer Ahmed Abukar told Xinhua.

The officer said the government official survived the attack, noting that the security forces arrived at scene to establish more details.

Witnesses said a car travelling near Korantada junction in Wadajir district exploded, causing casualties.

"I was near the scene when I heard the blast. I saw people are running from the direction of the junction, fearing for their lives," Salad Hassan, Wadajir resident told Xinhua.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Al-Qaeda linked group Al-Shabaab conducts similar attacks against government officials in Mogadishu. Endit
