Myanmar parliament forms commission to support bill committee

Xinhua, February 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

Myanmar's newly-elected parliamentary House of Representatives (Lower House) on Friday formed a 23-member reviewing commission on legal affairs and special cases during the ongoing first session of the parliament in Nay Pyi Taw in a bid to support bill committee.

The reviewing commission on legal affairs and special cases was established with former Speaker of Lower House U Shwe Mann as chairman and U Ko Ko Naing of Union Solidarity and Development Party from Yamethin constituency as vice chairman.

The 15-member Bill Committee and Public Accounts Committee of the house was composed on Thursday. The term of the committees is 5 years.

The new parliaments started their first sessions with the House of Representatives (Lower House), in which U Win Myint of the NLD was elected as Speaker of the House of Representatives and U Ti Khun Myat of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) as Deputy Speaker of the House, while U Mann Win Khaing Than of the National League for Democracy (NLD) as Speaker of the House of Nationalities (Upper House) and U Aye Tha Aung of the Arakan National Party (ANP) as Deputy Speaker of the House.

The first session of the two new houses came nearly three months after the end of the general election on Nov. 8, 2015, in which the National League for Democracy (NLD), led by Aung San Suu Kyi, won the absolute majority of the parliamentary seats.

Following the sessions of the two Houses, the first session of the Region or State Parliaments are set to begin next Monday. Enditem
