Man arrested on suspicion of firebomb attack at refugee center in Finland

Xinhua, February 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

Police has caught a man on suspicion of throwing firebombs at a refugee reception center in Petajavesi, central Finland on Thursday, local media reported.

The refugee reception center was attacked by three firebombs, which were thrown through the outer door's window on Wednesday night. The attack did not cause a fire and no casualties were reported, according to the Finnish News Agency STT.

The reception center currently accommodates a total of 80 asylum seekers.

A 25-year-old local man was detained by police on Thursday noon in association with the firebomb attack.

Police found that the suspect has also a link with the attempted arson in the same place in September 2015, when the reception center was empty.

In September last year, a similar firebomb attack occurred in a refugee reception center in Kouvola, southern Finland. A 50-year-old man was sentenced to one year in prison in November last year for throwing a petrol bomb at the reception center. Endit
