Tokyo shares end lower on stronger yen, weak U.S. data

Tokyo shares ended the trading Thursday lower on the yen's advance and weak U.S. economic data released overnight unnerved investors.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 146.26 points, or 0.85 percent, from Wednesday at 17,044.99.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 17.46 points, or 1.24 percent, to 1,388.81.

Decliners were led by retail, forestry and fishery, and insurance issues.

The turnover was about 2,858.7 billion yen (about 24.24 billion U.S. dollars). Enditem
