Israeli naval arrests 4 fishermen in Gaza: Palestinian unionist

Xinhua, February 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

Israeli navy forces arrested Wednesday four Palestinian fishermen off the Gaza coasts, said a Palestinian unionist.

Palestinian fishermen captain, Nizar Ayyash, told Xinhua that Israeli boats opened fire towards two Palestinian sailor boats, arresting the four fishermen onboard and taking them to an Israeli port.

The Israeli army has not commented on the incident immediately.

Israeli naval forces often apprehend and question Palestinian fishermen under the pretext of arms smuggling through Gaza sea, according to locals.

Following a ceasefire agreement in August 2014 that ended a 50 days offensive on Gaza, Israel allows fishermen to sail as far as six nautical miles offshore, and said would expand the allowed area gradually. Endit
