Slovakia to promote tourism amid global security threats

Xinhua, February 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

Current global security issues offer chances to boost tourism of Slovakia, said Slovak Tourism Association (ZCR) President Marek Harbulak on Tuesday.

The ZCR said that according to a map of risky countries drawn by the German Tourism Association, Slovakia was among countries with low security risk, along with Bulgaria, Croatia and Portugal. France, Spain, Turkey, Egypt and Libya were labelled as countries of high security risk. Medium risky countries are Morocco, Greece, Italy and Tunisia.

"It's an opportunity we need to grasp properly. On the other hand, the total scrapping of the Schengen area would have a negative impact on tourism not only in Slovakia but throughout the EU," said Harbulak.

According to statistics, the first 11 months of 2015 saw more than 4 million people spending their vacation in Slovakia, an increase of almost 16 percent year on year.

"It's the highest number in Slovakia's history," noted ZCR Vice-President Jan Svoboda, adding that some 60 percent of the tourists were Slovaks. Endi
