Cambodia has no biased policy toward any countries: FM

Xinhua, February 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong said on Wednesday that the country has no biased foreign policy toward any countries.

"Though Cambodia is a small and poor country, it has independence and sovereignty. As a nation with its good morals, culture and civilization existing for thousands of years, we do not choose a country over another," he told reporters at the Phnom Penh International Airport before leaving for a working visit to China.

His remarks came after some critics and analysts commented that Cambodia has closer ties with China than the United States.

"I told U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry during a recent meeting that Cambodia is a friend of China, but Cambodia also wants to be a close friend of the United States," said Namhong, who is also a deputy prime minister.

As for relations with China and Japan, he said Cambodia does not prefer one to another because the two countries have the same level of comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation with Cambodia. Enditem
