UN spokesman confirms DPRK's plan to launch satellite in February

Three United Nations entities have been informed of the intentions of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to launch an earth-observation satellite between Feb. 8-25, said a UN spokesman Tuesday.

The DPRK has told the International Civil Aviation Organization, International Maritime Organization and International Telecommunications Union about its plan to launch an earth-observation satellite this month, said Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for the secretary-general, at a news briefing held here.

"Right now we are carefully monitoring the developments and we are in close touch with interested parties and the international organizations," he said. Endit
