Abu Dhabi Crown Prince receives Russian FM

Xinhua, February 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, received visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov Tuesday, reported the United Arab Emirates' (UAE) state news agency WAM.

H.H. Sheikh Mohamed welcomed Lavrov's visit to the UAE, along with members of his delegation.

The two discussed UAE-Russian bilateral relations in addition to means of strengthening and improving them considering the two countries' excellent ties and common interests.

No further details were forthcoming regarding the talks.

In January the UAE's port operator, DP World, and the Russian Direct Investment Fund, announced a joint venture to develop the infrastructure in the biggest Eurasian country.

However, due to the ailing Russian economy following the oil slump, the Russian number of tourists who typically repeatedly visit the UAE, fell sharply last year.

The UAE and Russia hold opposing views of the ongoing Syrian conflict. The UAE has repeatedly called on President Bashar Al-Assad to step down, whereas Russia supports the Syrian government in the fight against rebels and Islamic State militants. Enditem
