Two weeks since the terrorist attacks that left at least 30 people dead in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso's judicial actors met on Monday to discuss ways to reinforce the country's legal framework to be able to apprehend all terrorism suspects.
"Due to the current terrorist threats, Burkina Faso should initiate some reforms, especially in terms of prevention," Justice Minister Rene Bagoro said during the forum's opening ceremony.
Bagoro said the Jan. 15 terrorist attack introduced in Burkina Faso, for the first time, the phenomenon of large scale terrorism.
He said the country "was well aware of the risks it was facing because of, first, its close ties with France which has come under numerous terrorist attacks and secondly, its strong involvement in the fight against terrorism."
The head of Burkina Faso's Judges' Union Therese Traore Sanou said judicial and security authorities should be well prepared because terrorists can hit any part of the country.
Madam Sanou said there is need to put in place a central organ for carrying out investigations and prosecution of terrorism suspects. Endit
