Tokyo stocks slide on oil price retreat, yen's appreciation

Xinhua, February 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

Tokyo stocks ended lower on Tuesday as the price of oil retreating once again, coupled with a comparatively high yen, dampened investor sentiment and saw export-linked shares take a hit.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended the day down 114.55 points, or 0.64 percent, from Monday at 17,750.68.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, closed 10.63 points, or 0.73 percent, lower at 1,452.04.

At the close, notable decliners comprised iron and steel, mining and nonferrous metals-linked shares.

The day's turnover was 2,946.4 billion yen (24.42 billion U.S. dollars). Enditem
