Jordan says int'l community should shoulder responsibilities toward Syrian refugees

Xinhua, February 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

Jordan on Monday said the international community should shoulder its responsibilities toward the Syrian refugees, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

Jordan's Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani said Jordan will send a clear message to the world during the London donors conference, which will be held at the end of this week, to stress on the key role the world needs to play to address the crisis of refugees.

The minister said world leaders taking part in the conference should take political decision to address this issue, voicing appreciation to countries that extended support to Jordan to help it provide services to some 1.3 million Syrians in the country.

He also reviewed pressure imposed on Jordan, adding that the international community needs to intervene to help refugee-hosting countries.

At a meeting with British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond, the minister said Jordan is in dire need of immediate aid from the international community to reduce pressure on key sectors amid continued influx of Syrian refugees.

He said Jordan needs support to be able to continue its humanitarian role, adding that Jordan needs immediate assistance in areas of energy, water, health and education. Endit
