Benin's public servants to declare wealth in anti-corruption drive

Xinhua, February 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Benin's National Anti-Corruption Authority (ANLC) has asked public servants as well as heads of ministries to declare their wealth, a source from the institution said Sunday.

According to the source, the law that created ANLC in 2011, provides that declaration of wealth by public officials should be enforced as a preventive measure against corruption.

"This provision was adopted particularly to prevent corruption and effectively fight against illegal wealth acquisition," the same source said.

To achieve its goal, ANLC has deployed officials to various ministries where they are expected to receive wealth declaration forms from senior officials and their subordinates in accordance with the law.

Benin's President Boni Yayi declared his wealth in 2006 when he first ran for the presidency and in 2011 when he contested for a second term. Endit
