1st Ld Writethru: 10 college students drown off beach in western India

At least 10 college students drowned off a beach in Raigad of the western Indian state Maharashtra Monday when they were on a group trip, local media reported.

The incident took place in the Arabian Sea at Murud Beach in Raigad district, around 150 km south of Mumbai.

The students were from a group of around 130 from the nearby city of Pune.

Rescuers have saved four girls so far and a dozen others remained missing, said Indo-Asian News Service.

Rescue operations are underway in full swing by locals and the Raigad police with help from nearby police stations, according to the report. Endit
