Aussie schools in lockdown for second day

Xinhua, February 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Nine schools in Australia's New South Wales state were again in lockdown on Monday as precautionary police operations took place following an anonymous bomb threat.

The New South Wales (NSW) department of education confirmed to local media schools were taking precautionary measures and working with authorities after "several schools received threats today," though "no students are in danger."

"Police are attending at each location as a precaution," a department spokeswoman said.

It's the second day in a row that Australian schools have been in lockdown from anonymous threats after authorities evacuated and searched over seven schools in NSW state and a multiple schools in Victoria state on Friday.

The schools were placed in temporary lockdown following multiple phone threats to local, interstate and overseas schools.

A NSW police spokeswoman told Xinhua that while the threat is similar to those of last Friday, so far, there are no confirmed links.

"Making such threats is a criminal offence and every effort will be made to identify the person or persons responsible," NSW police said in an earlier statement. Endit
