Tokyo shares end sharply higher on BOJ's further easing

Tokyo shares ended the trading Monday sharply higher on the Bank of Japan's decision to further its monetary easing policy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average surged 346.93 points, or 1.98 percent, from Friday at 17,865.23.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 30.60 points, or 2.14 percent, to 1,462.67.

Gainers were led by financial stocks, iron and steel, and information and communication issues.

The turnover was about 3,851.9 billion yen (around 31.77 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
