Cote d'Ivoire storm 2016 CHAN semifinal

Xinhua, January 31, 2016 Adjust font size:

The top-ranked African team Cote d'Ivoire romped into the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) semifinals after beating Cameroon 2-0 on Saturday.

After playing to a goalless draw at the Huye Stadium in Butare, the Cote d'Ivoire returned strongly and scored through Koffi Boua with a well taken header.

The ASEC Mimosas player Boua headed the ball into the net after 96 minutes as the Cameroon defenders were simply ball watching.

Moussa Souleymanow netted the second goal from a well taken Yazid Atouba Emane cross after 103 minutes.

The Cote d'Ivoire skipper Moumi Nicolas Brice later scored a beautiful goal with the shot taken from the center of the pitch on 108 minutes.

The Cameroon team had some chances in the first half but failed to utilize them.

"This is a very sweet win because we managed to score three goals after 90 minutes," said Cote d'Ivoire coach Michel Dussuyer after the game.

Cameroon's coach Martin Mpile Ndtoungou was disappointed after the final whistle and said his players relaxed in the extra minutes.

Tunisia on Sunday will face Mali in the first semifinal of the day at the Nyamirambo Stadium, before Zambia take on Guinea at the Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu Stadium. Endit
