Brazilian soccer great Zico and former Argentina coach Marcelo Bielsa are among a group of candidates who will run for the post of Chinese national soccer coach.

The deadline for application was Friday midnight and sources close to the Chinese Football Association (CFA) told Xinhua that about 50 candidates joined the race with 90 percent of applicants from abroad.

Zico, Bielsa and former Italy coach Cesare Prandelli highlighted the list which also includes Jorge Sampaoli who quit as Chile manager last week, former Portugal coach and Inter Milan coach Walter Mazzarri.

Former China coach Gao Hongbo was the first and only domestic coach who made public his intention to run for the job after Frenchman Alain Perrin was sacked by CFA on Jan. 8. Endi
