Migration crisis needs pan-European solution: Slovak FM

Xinhua, January 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

Migration has become a problem for the whole of Europe and it requires a pan-European solution, said Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak after a visit to Slovenia on Friday.

"Migration isn't a national problem, but a European one. So it requires a comprehensive pan-European solution that must be found and enforced jointly as soon as possible," said the minister, who met with Slovenian President Borut Pahor, Prime Minister Miro Cerar and Foreign Minister Karl Erjavec.

"Slovakia and Slovenia are close friends and partners with similar opinions. Our bilateral agenda isn't burdened with any problems, so we can jointly focus on European issues," said Lajcak.

The Slovenian officials told Lajcak that Slovenia has been thankful for Slovakia's assistance in handling the migration problem, as Slovakia has offered accommodation containers to migrants and police forces to guard the Schengen border.

Lajcak also praised Slovenia's efforts in properly registering migrants, adding that his country would provide a helping hand for Slovenia and other European partners.

The minister also called for the European Border and Coast Guard to take action as soon as possible to properly check persons who enter Europe and ensure the safety of the Schengen border. Endi
