Spain-China Foundation holds prize-giving event in Madrid

The Spain-China Foundation on Friday held the sixth edition of its annual awards ceremony in the Spanish capital city of Madrid.

The 2016 awards were given to the famous wine producers Bodegas Torres and to Chen Zhongyi, the Director of the Institute of Foreign Literature in the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Chen is responsible for translating many famous Spanish works into Chinese and helping widen knowledge of Spanish culture in his homeland.

Meanwhile Bodegas Torres is one of Spain's most famous wine producers, which exports to 150 different countries and regions and first began shipping its products to China in 1997.

The ceremony forms an important part of the Spain-China Foundation which is dedicated to building cultural bridges between Spain and China with the aim of building mutual understanding and increasing contacts in a range of different fields from economics to sport, law, education and culture.

This year's ceremony was presided over by acting Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia Margallo. Endit
