Birdshots by Islamist protesters wound 4 in Egypt

Xinhua, January 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least four people were injured by birdshots fired by Muslim Brotherhood protesters on Friday in the Egyptian Delta province of Sharqiya, official news agency MENA reported.

Dozens of Brotherhood loyalists took to the streets of Abu Hammad city of Sharqiya, 80 km north the Capital Cairo, to protest against the police.

The protesters chanted slogans against the police, the army and the government, which provoked the owners of some nearby shops.

The two sides started confrontations, and the Brotherhood responded by firing birdshots, the report added.

The Brotherhood group has called for anti-government protests on the fifth anniversary of January 25 revolution, but they failed to mobilize rallies amid intensive presence of security forces.

Islamist President Mohamed Morsi, who belongs to the Brotherhood group, was ousted by the army in 2013 due to mass protests against his rule.

The Brotherhood then was designated by the government as a terrorist group and most of its prominent figures were either in prisons or facing trials on charges of violence, murder, and spying. Endit
