EIB provides over one bln dollars in loans to Slovakia in 2015

Xinhua, January 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

The European Investment Bank's (EIB) loans to Slovakia came to a total of 1.04 billion euro (1.13 billion U.S. dollars) in 2015, amounting to a year-on-year rise of 87 percent.

The bank put particular focus on co-financing of priority projects bankrolled by the European funds.

"Last year was a successful year for EIB in Slovakia. Our total loans represent the best result over the past five years," confirmed EIB vice-president Laszlo Baranyay at a press conference in Bratislava on Thursday.

Baranyay pointed out that the investment bank group extended its presence and visibility on the Slovak market by opening its representation in Bratislava.

"In the following years, we'll focus on catalysation of private capital and realisation of higher-risk projects," claimed Baranyay.

Among the two most significant EIB loan operations in 2015 is a loan worth 600 million euros (654 million U.S. dollars), co-financing European fund priority projects in research and development, development of information society, human resources, environment and public administration.

Aanother is the 350 million euro (381 million U.S. dollars) loan to support strategic investments in transport infrastructure. Endit
