7 Hamas members found dead in collapsed Gaza tunnel

Xinhua, January 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

Seven members of al-Qassam Brigades, the Islamic Hamas movement's armed wing, were found dead Thursday in a tunnel which collapsed Tuesday in Gaza, the group said.

The seven lost contact with their commanders on Thursday when the tunnel collapsed due to heavy rainfall, Al-Qassam Brigades said.

Rescue teams spent the last two days searching for the seven until they found them dead Thursday.

The group did not give any further details, but designated the seven as martyrs since they died during a military operation inside the tunnel.

In recent months, close to 20 Hamas members have died in tunnels in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, along the enclave's border with Israel, stated the group. Endit
