One civilian killed in eastern Afghan explosion

Xinhua, January 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

One civilian was killed and five others wounded in a bomb attack in Afghanistan's eastern province of Khost on Thursday, police said.

"The blast took place after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted inside a drug store in provincial capital Khost city at around midday, leaving the casualties," General Faizullah Ghairat told Xinhua.

Those injured included a pharmacist and four civilian visitors, he said, adding that the injured were shifted to a hospital in the city, 150 km southeast of Afghan capital of Kabul.

The motive behind the attack remained unknown.

In an unrelated incident, one teenage girl was injured after three BM-1 rockets fired by militants struck a residential area in Pul-e-Khumri, capital of northern Baghlan province earlier on the day, provincial governor Abdul Satar Baraz told Xinhua.

The rockets were fired towards the city as sporadic clashes between Afghan security forces and Taliban militants entered its third day in Dand-e-Ghori, an area in outskirts of Pul-e-Khumri, the source added.

On Tuesday, the militants destroyed a power pylon in Baghlan, 160 km north of Kabul, causing widespread power outage in provincial capital and cutting power supply to Kabul. Enditem
