Tokyo shares end lower ahead of BOJ policy decision

Tokyo shares ended the choppy trading Thursday lower as investors maintained cautious ahead of Japanese central bank's decision due out Friday on its monetary policy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 122.47 points, or 0.71 percent, from Wednesday at 17,041.45.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 8.60 points, or 0.61 percent, at 1,392.10.

Decliners were led by iron and steel, mining and marine transportation issues.

The turnover was about 2,377.2 billion yen (about 20.04 billion U.S. dollars). Enditem
