Tokyo shares open lower following U.S. losses

Tokyo shares opened the trading Thursday lower following declines in the overnight U.S. stocks market after the U.S. Federal Reserve's statement that it would scale back rate hikes.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 209.23 points, or 1.22 percent, from Wednesday to 16,954.69.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 13.75 points, or 0.98 percent, at 1,386.95. Enditem
