China makes progress in nuclear emergency preparedness: white paper

China has made progresses in nuclear emergency preparedness, with some scientific achievements reaching the international advanced level, said a white paper issued Wednesday.
The country has developed nuclear accident consequence evaluation and decision-making support system, said the white paper on China's nuclear emergency preparedness released by the State Council Information Office.
Achievements have been made in areas such as accident source term estimation, wind field diagnosis and forecast, airborne radioactive material dispersion, radioactive material dispersion in water bodies, nuclear radiation medicine emergency classification and treatment, and radioactive dose estimation, said the document.
Moreover, studies are being conducted on important subjects such as simultaneous common-mode failure for multiple units, severe accident source term analysis for inland nuclear power plants, inter-regional nuclear emergency preparedness, and emergency response to nuclear and radiological terrorist attacks.
According to the report, a number of breakthroughs in the treatment of radiation diseases have been achieved, hopefully to reduce casualties of nuclear radiation accidents.
The white paper said a numerical prediction system of China's meteorological environmental emergency response is being developed. Endi
