Xinhua, January 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

Bulgaria's National Customs Agency (NCA) seized threefold less drugs and four times more counterfeit goods in 2015 compared to 2014, according to its annual report released here on Tuesday.

The amount of drugs and precursors seized by the agency in 2015, reached a total of 1,329 kg, 109 tablets and two liters in 88 cases, the report said.

Compared to the previous year, amounts have decreased threefold and the number of cases has fallen by 40 percent, NCA said.

In 2015, customs officers seized at the border of the country a total of 256 kilograms of heroin, the report said. "This drug, which is traditionally considered the most frequently trafficked through the territory of Bulgaria, was 500 kg less compared to 2014, and reached the levels of 2010-2011," the report said.

Meanwhile, the customs authorities have carried out 490 seizures of goods for which there were reasonable grounds to believe that they violated intellectual property rights, with 57 percent of the cases occurring at Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint near the border with Turkey, the report said. The total number of seized items in 2015 was 4,261,857, which was about 400 percent more than in 2014, NCA said. Endit
