Youth Winter Olympic figure skating winners Jin Yang/Yu Xiaoyu lead short program at National Winter Games

Xinhua, January 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

Youth Winter Olympic figure skating pairs champions Jin Yang and Yu Xiaoyu led the short program at the 13th National Winter Games despite injuries here on Tuesday.

Jin/Yu, represent Urumqi, also the winners at World Junior Championships in 2015, dominated the short program with 66.94 points at the National Winter Games junior's competition, 24.44 points better than the second-placed Zhao Ying/Xie Zhongda from Qiqihar.

"Yu had been sidelined nearly a month due to injuries and just came back to the rink a week before the Games," said Jin, 21, while Yu said Jin gave her encouragement and helped her to keep on.

"Jin's two years older than me, and he took care of me like a big brother," said the 20-year-old Yu. "I was not fully prepared because of injuries and lack of training, so I am happy with my result."

The free skate will be held on Wednesday. Endit
