Tokyo shares open lower on U.S. losses, declining oil prices

Tokyo shares opened the trading Tuesday sharply lower on poor U.S. market performance overnight and a fresh slide for oil prices.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average plunged 375.01 points, or 2.19 percent, from Monday to 16,735.90.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 29.95 points, or 2.15 percent, to 1,362.68. Endit
