Indian ruling party BJP re-elects president

Xinhua, January 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sunday re-elected Amit Shah as its president for a second term, said local media.

Shah, who is a close aide of Prime Minister Narendra Modi serving as BJP president since 2014, will serve as the party's head until 2019.

Analysts say this year is critical for the BJP to consolidate its power as it would fight for a series of local legislative elections in several key states, after suffering setbacks in local elections of Delhi and Bihar last year. Endit
