20-car pile-up near Indian capital due to dense fog

Xinhua, January 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

A road mishap due to dense fog led to a pile-up involving 20 cars on the Yamuna Expressway near the Indian capital early Sunday morning, a police official said.

"The mishap happened near Jewar toll plaza on the 165-km-long Yamuna Expressway in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, 80 km from the national capital," he said, on condition of anonymity.

However, there have been no reports of any casualties in the incident, the official said, adding all the vehicles have been removed from the high-speed corridor.

There has been massive fog in the Indian capital and its nearby regions and visibility dropped to less than 50 meters early this morning when the mishap took place.

A probe has been ordered into the incident though it is clear that reduced visibility due to dense fog led to the pile-up, the official said. Endit
